Makeup When Traveling: What to Bring and How to Pack It

Pride Makeup Looks

The worst part about summer vacay?

Packing.

Stuffing our entire makeup vanity into a tiny suitcase literally never works. But that doesn’t stop us from trying it anyway.

Sooner or later, something ends up broken. Or forgotten. Or melted.

Yeah — we’ve all been there.

That’s why we created a short list of tips and products you’ll need for your next trip. When it comes to packing your makeup, we’ve got you covered.

How to pack your makeup for travel

Making sure your beauty products are secure (without taking up too much space in your suitcase) isn’t an easy task. And nothing’s worse than forgetting the most important item in your makeup routine when you’re hundreds of miles away from home.

So, here are 5 tips to keep in mind while packing your makeup for your next trip.

1. Look for simple, travel-friendly packaging.

You’d be surprised how much space you can save with sleek, minimalistic packaging.

A lot of makeup brands opt for heavy, bulky packaging because it’s considered “luxury.” Not only does this packaging cost more (which means you pay more), but it’s also hard to travel with.

Light, compact packaging is the way to go here. With smaller, lighter packaging, you’ll be able to fit all of your products into your suitcase without weighing it down.

We make M2U NYC’s packaging light, simple, and stylish, so it’s environmentally sustainable and perfect for travel.

2. Curate a quick-and-easy routine.

Spending hours doing your makeup on vacation can be a drag.

Before you go, curate a quick routine that only takes, like, 10 minutes tops. That way, you get maximum time relaxing and enjoying your time off.

Easy-to-use products like our Eye Crayon and Cream Blush are an absolute must. With products like these, it’s as easy as swiping some on and blending it out with your fingers (meaning you don’t even need to pack your makeup brushes).

After that, all you have to do is look good.

3. Only bring the essentials.

Packing as light as possible is really the key.

Picking 4-6 essential products to bring with you guarantees a quick routine and a lighter load. And creating an entire look with only a couple of products is actually easier than you might think.

Think about what you need for a basic makeup look. What are the products you can’t live without?

These should be the only products you take with you. Not sure what to pick? Check out our Makeup Essentials Kit — it features four everyday products anyone from newbie to pro love. And it comes with a free zipper pouch (which you can use as your travel makeup bag)!

4. Keep your makeup secure and out of the heat.

Basically, keeping makeup secure and cool prevents melting and breaking.

There’s nothing worse than opening your powder to find it turned to dust on the way to your destination. Or realizing your lipstick turned into a gross, goopy mess.

Avoid putting your products in crowded places, like your purse or carry-on. Your best bet is to use a designated makeup bag and tuck it underneath a layer of clothes in your suitcase.

And if you’re only bringing the essentials, they shouldn’t take up too much space.

5. Don’t forget your primer (and sunscreen).

Pretty much the only way to make sure your makeup stands a chance in the summer heat is by using a primer.

Eyeshadow primer (our newest product!) and face primer are two things you absolutely need to bring with you. They should definitely be on the “products you can’t live without” list.

Using face sunscreen as a primer is an age-old makeup hack we swear by. Not only does it grip your makeup, but it also protects your skin underneath.

Don’t forget these! You’ll thank us later.

There’s a reason our Eye Crayon is a bestseller.

Creamy, pigmented, and blendable, these crayons glide on like a dream (meaning no tugging or pulling whatsoever!). Out of this entire routine, these are probably the easiest to use — all you do is swipe it on your eyelids!
